      • TIDE PODS | TIDES

Tides are a gravitational pull exerted by the Moon and Sun on Earth.

Tides are caused by the gravitational pull exerted by a larger object on a smaller one. On Earth, water tides are the result of the Moon and the Sun pulling on the water, depending on their relative positions to one another. Tides are the highest and lowest when both the Moon and the Sun are pulling from the same direction. When the Moon and Sun pull from orthogonal directions, tides are less pronounced. Tidal forces can also shear and destroy dwarf satellite galaxies close to a much larger galaxy. A human falling into a black hole would also experience tidal forces.
